Beware: Affiliate Marketers Are Trying To Scam You

Affiliate marketers have earned quite a negative reputation over the years. This post might come as a shock to some since I have been doing affiliate marketing since 2007 and I have been praising affiliate marketing since I started in this industry. So let’s get right into it. First of all, what is affiliate marketing? In short an affiliate marketer is simply a middle man between the seller and the buyer. This concept has existed for a very long time, even before the internet became a thing. You find products, you find a buyer for that product and you receive a commission if the sale takes place. If you want more details you can check out my post on the whole process of using affiliate marketing online. So far so good, right? Nothing shady in that process. What has ruined the reputation of affiliate marketing is not the process itself but rather the marketers (some marketers to be more precise).   The Bad Apples Affiliate marketing hit its peak in 2006-2008 in my opinion. Thousands of people were promoting someone else’s products online and earning a good chunk of their income from it. Many affiliate marketers built a long term sustainable businesses on this model and continue to earn a full time income in 2015. However, there was a huge influx of newbies into this world of online business. Every time there is a “hot opportunity” online, a bunch of people jump on it. Unfortunately many of them weren’t thinking of building a business but rather making a quick buck, any way possible. Many of these “ways” were unethical...
How to Earn Bigger Affiliate Commissions

How to Earn Bigger Affiliate Commissions

Did you know that you could make more money per sale for some of your affiliate promotions? I have been using and promoting Hostgator hosting on and off and I have noticed that I’ve been making $50 per sale in 2013. This amount surprised me because I remember making $100 per sale back in 2009. I started digging around and I realized what went wrong and why the commission was cut in half. Hostgator runs two (2) affiliate programs that I know of. One is their own, in-house affiliate program and the other is managed by Commission Junction (CJ). The in-house affiliate program is based on performance and pays you a higher commission when you make more sales. The CJ affiliate program is fixed at $100 per sale. When I started promoting HG I did it through Commission Junction so I earned one hundred dollars per sale. However, when I took a break from internet marketing in 2010, my CJ account was deactivated because it became “dormant” or simply inactive. When I tried to login into CJ in 2011 or 2012 I got a message that the account is deactivated. I didn’t care enough to contact Commission Junction so I went to Hostgator and signed up to their affiliate program directly on their website – this is how I managed to miss out on some cash. Hostgator in-house affiliate program is performance based. If you make 1-5 sales per month, you earn 50$ per sale. $75 for 6-10 monthly sales, $100 per sale is you make 11-20 monthly sales and $125 per sale is you make more than 21...
What is Affiliate Marketing and Why You Should Learn it.

What is Affiliate Marketing and Why You Should Learn it.

Lately I have been posting articles on specific subjects of making extra money on the Internet. However I have received the same question from my readers by e-mail, G+ and Twitter: “What Exactly Is Affiliate Marketing?” I decided to write this detailed article where I touch all the basics (while going in-depth). I will explain every step of the process. Please remember this is not some theory, this is a practical guide. This is how I’ve been making money online for the past 6 years. There are several ways to earn an income from home and I often talk about these possibilities however I concentrate on affiliate marketing. This has proved to be the most profitable money making strategy – at least for me. Affiliate marketing (not to be confused with MLM or network marketing) means that you become a middleman between the seller and the buyer. You find online shoppers who are looking to purchase a product (or to solve a problem), then you find a supplier (seller) who can provide the buyer with a solution or a product. Your job is to connect the two and when the buyer purchases the product – the seller pays you a commission. Live Example of How Affiliate Marketing Works: John wants to buy a new laptop so he searches the internet for laptop reviews and of course the prices. He stumbles upon your review where you describe your experience with a specific product. Your review also tells John that Amazon offers the lowest price on this specific laptop. John reads your pros and cons, he understands that the price is...

$32 Billion – Did You Claim Your Share?

Here is an interesting fact;  according to comScore, from November 2010 until Christmas of the same year the US consumers spent over $32 Billion – ONLINE. A 12% increase compared to the same period of time in 2010. As an Internet Marketer you could have gotten a share of this money and still can – I’ll tell you more om that further. I am sure that recession hitting the US harder than ever played a major role in that. The things is, folks want to save money and most of the time buying online is cheaper (and more convenient) than going to your local store. More and more online retailers offer free shipping which boost their customer base, just look at the growing popularity of Amazon, their free shipping and low prices! Not having any time to waste – another reason why consumers turn to the internet. If you’ve ever been to a shopping mall during the pre-Christmas period, you know perfectly what I am talking about. Get in the car, get to the mall, drive around the parking lot for half an hour trying to find a free spot then go inside the mall and try to make your way through thousands of crazy customers which all seem in a rush and not that nice during this shopping period. Turn on your pc, type a phrase in Google, receive your purchase by mail in a few days – it’s not only time but also a stress saver after all! Make Money As An Affiliate This is great news for affiliate marketers from all over the world. As most...

2010 Private WA Super Affiliate Conference in Vegas

Well, I made it. This year I attended the Wealthy Affiliate Private Super Affiliate Conference in Las Vegas. I was going to write this post earlier but I was so overwhelmed, I wasn’t sure what to write. I already published a post about this Vegas Conference back in 2008 but  this year I didn’t only get to write about it, I was one of the few selected people who got a chance to attend this conference… and calling it a conference is a big understatement because it is so much more! (photo at Skylofts MGM Grand; Carson, me, Kyle) So what is this “conference” all about? Well, I’ll have to stop calling it a conference. Usually at a conference there are hundreds of people who sit and listen to a “guru” on the stage which is great but in the end it’s all it is – a conference. The WA Super Affiliate conference is more of a long (2 days long) conversation between some of the world’s best affiliate marketers who share their ideas and experiences. Everyone gets a chance to talk, everyone gets a chance to come up with some ideas to help others. This amazing event made me realize, once again, that the sure way to achieve success is by helping people! It was an amazing experience meeting Kyle and Carson, Travis Sago the creator of BumMarketing, Jennifer aka PotPieGirl and the few others who made it to Vegas with us! Now, it’s not all about business. Sure, we all appreciated that Kyle and Carson paid for our airfare and awesome suites at MGM Grand but I...

Trends Sell! (a.k.a $834 in One Day)

Hello, folks! Today I would like to share my experience… from yesterday. Yesterday I put up a brand new affiliate marketing campaign and I made $834 off of it in about 12 hours. It only took me one hour to set everything up. So how did it happen? Well, I keep my eye on the “trends”. I try to keep up with what’s hot today, what’s on the news, what sells… Google Trends and Digg are the main sources for this kind of information, watching new on TV doesn’t hurt either (although you can look at Google News instead). Yesterday I was going through the blogs that I subscribed to, just looking over the news and on one of the blogs there was a mention that Hostgator had a 75% sale that day only! The Black Friday 75% OFF Sale on all of their hosting plans. Since I am a loyal and satisfied customer of Hostgator, I thought the sale would be a great reason to promote this company… knowing that I get paid $119 per sale was another reason. So I wrote up a quick and short post on my blog about it and gave my affiliate link to Hostgator site. Then I submitted my blog to Pingoat and Pingomatic, also DIGG.com, I also mentioned it on Twitter. Then I posted a thread about it right here on WA – now I was able to get a few sales from here because I have been an active member and people have seen my posts before – which kind of helps with the trust issue, if a NEW member...
