You probably know Airbnb as a website where you can rent an accommodation. However, not too long ago the company came up with a new concept and it’s called Airbnb Experiences. An experience is an activity or a guide of some sort that you can host as a guide. It can be a walk through the city, a costume making workshop, a bar crawl and everything in between. You offer the experience and get paid for it. Certain people do make a full time income through this new platform and so can you.
You need to know that Airbnb takes a 20% fee per booking. This might sound like a lot of money but it actually isn’t if you consider what’s in it for you. When starting any kind of business online or offline you need to do marketing and advertising for it. You can have the best shop in the world but if people don’t know about you won’t make money. When customers come to Airbnb to book an accommodation they are also presented with possible experiences and since their payment method is already in the system all they need to do is click one single button. If you still think that 20% is too much then try setting up tour of any sort for tourist (outside of Airbnb) and see how many customers you will get (hint: it’ll be zero).
Out of curiosity I have registered an experience. Unfortunately I did not get bookings for it. There is one main reason for it – lack of demand. I went for something very niche and very specific and obviously failed with this one. However I have friends earning $1,000 per week with their experience and their time involvement is about 15 hours. Howe awesome is that? That amount can easily be increased if they decide to take on more guests per tour and if they open more dates (you decide how many days a week you want to host an experience).
Just like with any other business you will need to make sure your experience has good rankings if you want to attract customers. In this episode you will learn how to come up with a tour that will perform well, how do to work on your rankings and how to make the most money possible. If Experiences are not yet available in your city you should still listen to this episode and get ready. Offering one of the first experiences in your city is very beneficial so make sure you are ready for the moment when Airbnb launches this platform in your town.
