Even though I am an “Internet Marketer” I still love to read the old-school books, the ones that are printed on paper. Recently I bought another book and I am going to review it here.
Most people read for pleasure. Some people read in order to learn something new. I do both at the same time – I read for pleasure of learning new things. If you’ve been following my blog for long enough you have probably realized that I love marketing, social media, blogging and many other parts of online marketing.
This is why every single book that I bought in the past years is somehow related to marketing. A while ago I wrote a blog post where I recommended 5 books that every marketer should read. I might be adding another book to this list.
JJJRH by Gary Vaynerchuk
I’ve heard of Gary Vaynerchuk several times since 2007 (when I got into online marketing) but never really paid attention. Over the years I have had different marketers who influenced me and who helped me shape my mindset and my marketing strategies. I have tried to keep this number to a minimum because I have a hard time concentrating on work when I have 43 “gurus” sending me emails every day.
In the past 2 years or so my circle of “motivators” went down to 4 or 5 (from 15+). What’s more important, I UNSUBSCRIBED from 30 Internet Marketing e-mail lists… can you believe it? Thirty! How can you possibly concentrate when 30+ people are asking you to read their content every single day?
So I concentrated my attention on only a few people. Since Marie Forleo and Pat Flynn were in my top 5 people to follow, I kept on following them. Now, Marie posted a video interview with Gary. Pat posted a podcast with Gary a few days later… and I was hooked! I had to have that new book… especially since I was trying to learn as much as I can on Social Media at the moment.
I was busy with a lot of things when the book came out, however I finally ordered it on Amazon for $20.
Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook: How to Tell Your Story in a Noisy Social World
I got the chance to read the book during my 7 hour flight from Montreal to Europe. I must admit that I’ve read most of it during the flight and will re-read it very soon.
First of all, I was very surprised with the quality of the actual book. The pages feel very nice, the paper seems expensive and the printing is beautiful. I know that most people will not care about “how pages feel”, and I usually wouldn’t care about it either. However, Gary’s book is so well designed, presented and packaged – it deserve a few sentences.
The Content
I liked the book from the first page. As I kept reading – I was starting to fall in love with this book. You know that often we like books because they remind us what we already know. This book is different. Every few pages I would say: “OMG! This is genius! Why didn’t I think of that?!” JJJRH actually taught me a lot of new things. I will have to re-read it and take notes, so I make sure I apply a lot of strategies described by Gary into my own Social Media Marketing.
What I loved the most? Real life examples. Many people will try to teach us some theory, without being able to give good examples. Vaynerchuk actually showcases a lot of real social media failures and successes. Gary takes apart ads and campaigns from some of the world’s biggest companies, explaining what was done wrong, what was done right, how it should have been done and most importantly why.
Conclusion.
These 12 chapters have taught me an incredible amount of information. Almost 200 pages of pure, very high quality content and zero fluff. I would highly recommend this book to every single marketer out there. You have probably that I rarely promote stuff on this blog, because there aren’t many things worth promoting. Well, JJJRH is worth promoting and telling everyone about.
Get your copy of Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook on Amazon!

I’ve seen some of Gary’s talks online. Some very punchy stuff with colorful language but good content.
Might check out the book when I’ve got time to read one. Thanks
No problem, John.
I really don’t mind “colorful language” as long as the content is great 😉
Heard of Gary Vaynerchuk a lot since I started marketing. Thanks for the book recommendation. For now I’m going to see what content he has online that I can absorb.
My pleasure, buddy! He’s got quite a few good videos on Youtube. Check ’em out!
Great review, Alex!

Thanks for following and reading, Luke!
It seem like Gary is actually a very well known marketer, and it’s normal to not know everyone out there 😉
No problem Alex always love reading straight up genuine content.
Did you watch the hour and a half segment on youtube with Gary v and chase Jarvis? Probably one of the best and most eye opening videos I’ve ever seen!
I haven’t seen this one, Luke, so thank you 🙂 I’ll be watching it today.
