Content is King. This is probably the most overused phrase when it comes to online marketing. It is a fact and we all know it. If you want your content to bring results it must be top notch. Users love great content so do search engines and this is why so many online creators and marketers have been stepping up their content game in the past few years. However, simply creating high quality content and putting it online just doesn’t cut it anymore.

If you want your content to get noticed you need to market it. Heck, you probably need to spend more time marketing your content than creating it. Sharing your links on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram is a good idea however you also need other people sharing it and talking about. This is how you get the real results out of your content. And this is where we get back to our first point: if your content is not amazing – no one will share it or talk about it.

I often stumble upon blog posts and facebook posts where people complain how content marketing is useless and it’s not working. Here is the harsh truth: if it’s not working it’s because you’re doing it wrong. Maybe your content isn’t as good as you think? Take a step back and evaluate your content objectively. If you stumbled upon your article in the wild – would you go out of your way to share it with others? If you wouldn’t, no one else would. Are you really promoting it as much as you possibly can? I know that I do NOT promote my content nearly as much as I could.

Whenever I put in a lot of effort into marketing a piece of content I usually get amazing results but the truth is I do not do this for every piece of content I create. My How To Start A Podcast guide is a good example. It still gets loads of targeted traffic 3 years later although it’s not even ranking on Google’s top 10 for my main keywords. My list of books every entrepreneur should read also did very well and is still pulling in healthy traffic although it’s outdated. The list is great however it’s the effort that I put into promoting this post that matters.
