As you might already know, we tend to procrastinate by creating challenges that shouldn’t exist in the first place. It’s understandable since it’s much easier to think of an excuse to not start a business than to actually take action. In this episode I’ll be breaking one of these “fake challenges”.

What is the absolute best platform to build your business website on? The short answer is WordPress. There, I said it.

There are never ending online wars where people are fighting over the superiority of WordPress, Wix, Squarespace, Drupal and many other platforms. Some even suggest that the best way of creating a website is coding it in HTML from scratch. Seriously, who got time for that?

Let’s look at some facts.

WordPress is used by almost 30% of all the websites. If we look at CMS (content management system), WordPress takes 60.1%  of the market share. Joomla is at 3% of CMS, Drupal at 2.2%, Squarespace at 0.8% and Wix is at 0.5%. Obviously WordPress is the most used platform and there are several reasons for it.

Versatility and Flexibility

This simply means that WordPress allows designer, developers and pretty much everyone else to modify it and improve it. While other platforms are keeping their codes secret, WordPress encourages its community to make suggestions and improvements.

Because of this there are hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of themes available for WordPress. This means that you you can make your website look exactly the way you want it to look without learning coding or design and without hiring a coder.

Personally I prefer Divi by Elegant Themes when it comes to WordPress. All of my websites (and my clients’ websites) run on Divi. I chose this specific themes because it’s the world’s most customization and flexible theme. You can make your website very unique and original. This theme is also very responsive and relatively light which means shorter loading speed for your website.

Let’s not forget the functionality of WordPress. If you want  your website to do a certain task you can most likely find a plugin that does it for you. There are over 50,000 WordPress plugins available and most of them are free. Other website platforms don’t come anywhere near that number. In fact, many functions that you use with WordPress are simply impossible on other platforms because the plugins don’t exist and the platform does not allow you to modify its source code in any way.

Third Party Tool Integration

Are you using MailChimp for your email marketing? MailChimp integrates flawlessly with WordPress. Do you want to sell products on your website? Ecommerce solutions such as WooCommerce work great with WordPress. Most third party tools that you can think of have some kind of integration with WordPress which cannot be said about other platforms. Sure, you can spend $20,000 trying to integrate your accounting software with your website but why not do it for free and with a few simple clicks of a button?

Don’t forget that WordPress is also the most SEO (Search Engine Optimization) friendly platform. Because the developers always pay attention to the search engines they know how to structure the platform in order to give it a big advantage when it comes to ranking a website.

There are many other reasons why you should go with WordPress but I won’t listen all here. However one of the biggest reasons to use WordPress is the huge community behind it. Whenever I ran into a problem or wanted to do something very specific on my website but dodn’t know how to do it, I always found a solution online. WordPress forums have thousands of active members that will help you with pretty much anything. The same goes to theme and plugin developers – they’re always wiling to help you without charging you.
