In this week’s episode of the Extra Paycheck Podcast we’re talking about a very specific strategy that will help you increase your website traffic.
You know you want more traffic to your blog or your website, right? After all, if we don’t get any visitors to our website we wouldn’t be able to make any money online. What if I told you there is a simple way to double your blog’s traffic without spending a single dime?
First of all you’ll need to have your website on Google Search Console. This free tool helps you understand your website’s health. It also helps Google understand your website, index it within its search results and serve it to the potential visitors.
Search Console (previously known as Google Webmaster Tools) gives you access to lots of great information about your website. Besides showing some crawling stats and indexing results it also give you access to something very interesting.
Under Search Analytics tabs you’ll find a list of keywords and keyword phrases. Your website visitors used these keywords in Google’s search bar in order to land on your website. This is really awesome because you’ll most likely stumble upon a bunch of keywords that you never targeted. You simply ranked well for them because Google deemed it appropriate. You can now start targeting these specific keywords in the future. Underneath this list you’ll have a download button which will allow you to download the full list of keywords (we’ll use that later).
Keyword Planner is another great free tool from Google. This tool will show you how many monthly searches a keyword gets. You can upload that list (that you downloaded from Search Console) and let Keyword planner crunch the numbers.
Then you can sort the keywords by the number of searches. Pick the ones that get the most searches and save them. Or you can save and export the whole list, you’ll probably need it.
Think about this. Your articles ranked for these keyword phrases even though they weren’t optimized. What if you optimized these articles for these specific keyword phrases? Chances are you’d get even better rankings and certainly more traffic.
Now is the time to revisit your article and update them. Don’t just stick your new keyword phrases in there but take your time to update an article and add more valuable information to it. Once you update these article they’ll have a much higher chances of ranking higher and even getting better rankings for your initially targeted keyword phrase.
Last step – enjoy more free traffic.
